In the fall of 1981 I began the first of the sketchbooks that would become documents
of moments spent pondering in the course of my daily life and travels. That fall
I also enrolled in a night school course at Atkinson College, in advance of a
return to studies the next year at York University.
The bus for York leaves Wilson station and winds through Downsview on its way to
the campus. In the evenings, some drivers would take advantage of the desolate
streets and the heaving of the bus would make reading all but impossible.
Eventually, and especially in the daytime, the monotony of the trip was dispersed
in an assortment of texts.
